Animal totem

A week ago I was asked what my animal totem was...I said I wasn't sure.  The horse?  I am definitely a horse lover, but I felt my totem needed to be a wild animal and probably a bird.  So I wrote last week in Morning Pages about wanting an animal totem that I related to.  Yesterday I took the dogs for a walk and saw a photographer with the largest lense on his camera which was mounted on a tripod.  "That's a serious lens," I say.  And he asks me if I would like to look.  He had a very large male bald eagle in his sights.  The magnificent bird sat high in the bare cottonwood, seeminly posing as he turned his head from side to side.  "Look at this profile!" the eagle seemed to be saying.  After watching him for quite a while, I decided to continue on my walk.  Not very far along, a large female bald eagle shot out of the bushes and banked in a swoop across the river!  The wing span seemed at least 4 feet.  The female flew high up into two intertwined pine trees.  I couldn't see her, so kept walking and studying the tree.  Then movement.  I spied her in her nest.  Called to the photographer who was able to set up his camera and we could see the female with his highpowered lens.  Click, click, click..."I have already taken 300 shots!" says the photographer.  Just then the female flew out of her hiding place and joined the male in the cottonwood.  There they both were - it seemed - just for us.  And I thought, "The eagle, of course."  Free and strong and independent - my totem.

There's an eagle nest near my parents, and I watch the eaglets every summer as they grow through my dad's binoculars. Such amazing creatures. I can't decide what my animal totem would be....

excellent choice of totem! i have a deck of cards, an oracle of sorts, called "medicine cards." there are 44 of them, and they each picture a different animal. in the companion book, the eagle is number one, and it represents "spirit."

I am not sure why people are stcnikag these stones. I, for one, hope this is a passing fad that ends with the Spring floods. I try to leave as little record of my visits as possible. What I pack in, I pack out. I try not to disturb the natural surroundings. I have seen these stone stacks at several locations. They detract from the beauty of the location just as we do. We leave. These stacks stay. At Punchbowl, I was taken aback by the quantity of stacks. Rather than spend time stcnikag rocks, enjoy the scenery. These stone stacks add nothing and are more or less graffiti. Leave these sites as you found them so others can enjoy them without alteration.After doing some googling, I found that rock balancing is a new art form. While, as an artist, I am well aware that proffering the title of art onto mundane activity elevates the activity in some peoples minds. I am trained to recognize art and appreciate it. Some of the photos on websites devoted to this do reflect an element of skill and design. They also show an empathy with the canvas of their natural surroundings. However, the stacks of rocks at Punchbowl Falls resemble the artwork seen at many amateur art exhibits; poorly drawn, crudely painted and clumsily presented. The stones are stacked in haphazard piles with no respect for the environment. In fact, they detract from the natural art of the Falls. It's as if someone thought draping colored beads over a Degas improves the original. It becomes visual noise and impinges on the experience. That noise is what most people come there to escape.

Interesting design, wish I had had the canche to see it in the wild. I can see how it kowtows much more to aesthetic principles rather than usability, but the idea of modular signage with higher visibility / readability is a good one. Reading the recent book Helvetica and the New York Subway System, it's clear that it's always a process of evolution; the iconic NYC white-lettered, black-panelled, coloured roundel designs we know today only really took their shape as late as 1980, and even today are still morphing through rounds of electronic signage. In the case of the bus shelter design, I rather wish we would take a cue from the Germans; they've had bus shelters with day/night visible electronic signs with integrated ticket vending machines for decades.

Eagles want Cousins back!?!?Just listing to Perth's chaennl 7 news they had an interview with Daniel Kerr admitting him and most of the team would absolutely want Ben Cousins at the club were he would of played out his career. I was like yeah yeah not going to happen. Although then the played a clip of Peter Sumitch (assistant coach) and John Worstfold saying they want ben at the club. This really go me thinking Is there a chance of cousins back home? remember all the top draft picks Eagles do have! The media would be over the moon, new story " Ben Back Home".So many people have asked and commented about the likeliness of Cousins going to there club. So i ask: What do you think? What's the chance of him becoming a player at Eagles again??Hey Danni i have heard he was asked to play in that game although we haven't heard if he has excepted it yet, would be a great game to watch, even it just one last time in the blue and gold.
